After his much-publicised confessional interview with Oprah Winfrey, the story of Lance Armstrong is heading for the silver screen.
Paramount Pictures and producer J J Abrams' company, Bad Robot, have announced they are planning a biopic about the disgraced cyclist.
The co-producers have secured the rights to the book Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong by New York Times reporter Juliet Macur, which is due out in June.
MS Macur covered the career of the seven-times Tour de France winner for over a decade.
No director, writer, star or start date have been set for the project.
In a two-part interview with Winfrey on her fledgling OWN network, Armstrong has admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs to reach his historic victories, something he had defiantly denied for years.
Some 3.2 million viewers in the United States tuned in to see fallen cyclist's confession that he was a drug cheat, the TV interviewer's cable channel said .
It was the most-watched show ever on the network after Winfrey's March 2012 conversation with the family of late singer Whitney Houston.
The figure does not include viewers in other countries, or the 1.1 million who watched a repeat immediately after the initial broadcast of the 90-minute special that was also streamed live on Oprah.com.
The first part of the much-anticipated interview ran against American Idol on the mainstream Fox network, which drew 16.2 million viewers during its two-hour broadcast, Variety reported.
Entertainment Weekly called the ratings "extremely strong", but showbusiness trade journal Variety thought the numbers were "below what might have been expected considering the gravitas of the interview".
US TV ratings authority Nielsen said the special "ranked among the top 20 most-watched primetime programmes for the night among all broadcast and cable networks".
